Everyone copes differently with the death of a family member. It helps to have other family members and friends by your side during this difficult time. Yet dying and death are still taboo subjects in our society. As a result, it is common for those who are grieving to feel left alone to cope with their loss. In such cases, it may be helpful to seek support from a bereavement support group or a grief counselor in your area.

In addition to coping with your grief, you are faced with the responsibility of settling the deceased person’s estate and arranging their funeral. Many funeral homes today provide very comprehensive and compassionate guidance. However, it helps to have already thought through the most important questions before a death occurs.

The Consumer Advice Center has published a resource(available for a fee) that can help you during the grieving process and as you prepare for it: Consumer Advice Center (ed.): What should you do when someone dies? A Guide to Coping with Grief. With forms and checklists. 3rd edition, 2024.

You can order this guide right here in the Consumer Center’s online store.
